The Phillips Wharf Environmental Center is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that focuses on environmental education. Our mission is to encourage, educate, and engage Chesapeake Bay stewards of all ages through interactive experiences showcasing the Bay’s ecosystem and its inhabitants. Our vision is to enhance and sustain the Chesapeake Bay’s ecosystems through our programs and our network.

We provide hands on education programs that bring the Chesapeake Bay to life for children and adults. Currently, this includes our traveling aquarium, the Fishmobile, which visits schools and festivals throughout Maryland. Once our new location in Easton is fully renovated, we plan to include on-site programs which will include field trip opportunities, adult education programs, and family friendly events.

We also run a restoration program to increase oyster populations in the Chesapeake Bay. Our Tilghman Islanders Grow Oysters program, under the state-wide Marylanders Grow Oysters, places baby oysters with waterfront homeowners in the Bay Hundred area. Once those baby oysters have spent 9 months growing, we plant them in the Harris Creek Oyster Sanctuary, where they support the wild oyster population.
